Announcing - Aloha Quilt Cruise 2015

It's no secret - YOU ARE INVITED...

Announcing...

 The Aloha Quilt Cruise 2015

I am so excited to let you all know that I’ve been invited to host my very first Quilt Cruise! When the Flight Centre in Vancouver called me up and asked if I would be the feature guest for a quilt cruise I was so honoured. They asked where I might like to go and I almost fell off my chair as I uttered “somewhere hot please!” I’ll be talking about this for the next 9 months leading up to the big event but here’s the quick scoop for today.

  • We have booked space on board the Star Princess Cruise Ship for the 2015 Aloha Quilt Cruise.
  • It will be a 15 day cruise to and from Vancouver starting on Sept. 19th 2015.
  • 5 days at sea, 4 days at Hawaiian ports of call and 5 days at sea back home.
  • 8 full days of workshops available plus contests, prizes and more...
During that very first phone call I immediately asked if I could invite another talented quilt teacher with a musical twist. So Cathy Miller the Singing Quilter is my special guest.

This will be an event you don't want to miss! If you want to secure your spot now, or book this for someone special this Christmas you can contact the Flight Centre by calling Miriam at 1-866-420-4410, or email Miriam Cloutier and ask about the Aloha Quilt Cruise.

I hope you’ll join us!

There will be hexagons, molas, paper piecing, inklingo, fibre art and more! The sponsors who have "jumped on board" already are

  • Janome Canada
  • Northcott Silks Inc.
  • Aurifil and more...

Now if you are thinking wow, a 15 day cruise might cost a lot, you have 8 months to save up. And I personally guarantee we will pack in the value. Just consider how you’ve been treating yourself over the past few years. Are you always taking care of everyone else? Do you deserve a holiday?

The Aloha Quilt Cruise is just the creative escape you need to let your stress melt away. I’d be so thrilled if you’d join me and Cathy Miller for the cruise of a lifetime this fall. And remember, lots of husbands come along on quilt cruises. There will plenty of time to spend together outside of the workshops plus 4 wonderful days on the Hawaiian Islands. So grab your husband or call a friend and book your cruise today. We’ll keep you updated on cruise news, the sponsors and more in every CQT podcast leading up to the departure date.

Stay tuned to the CQT podcast at Brandy Lynn Designs and sign up for my newsletter on the right hand side of this blog so you don't miss a thing. Over the next few weeks I'll be posting teacher bios, workshop descriptions, featured sponsors, the ports of call, what
you can expect from a quilting cruise and much more!

NEXT UP - My holiday CQT Podcast airing Dec. 25th! There will be more cruise news, great holiday prizes, my favourite quiltful stocking stuffers and more...

AND Cathy Miller will be announcing an Aloha Quilt Cruise blog for up to date developments as we go. And don't forget, I'll be posting dozens of photos of the SNOWFLAKES holiday postcard exchange on Pinterest on Dec. 25th. Check it out - you just might be inspired to participate in the next fabric postcard exchange with Canadian Quilt Talk.

Happy Holidays Everyone!

Tuesday Preview - Canadian Quilt Talk Episode # 65

Happy Tuesday Everyone!

My special guest on this week's show is Cheryl Arkison and we'll be talking all about how she got started, her wonderful modern quilting books and what she's been up to lately.

CQT Episode #65 - Modern Quilting with Cheryl Arkison
And you've probably guessed it - if I'm interviewing Cheryl, then we will definitely be talking about modern quilting! Cheryl is a talented Canadian writer, quilt designer, and teacher. If you check out her shop on Etsy - Cheryl Arkison Quilts you just might guess that my favourite pattern is called Oh Canada!

Oh Canada Quilt Pattern by Cheryl Arkison
I would characterize her quilts as modern and scrappy with a refreshing take on using up your stash with improvisational piecing. She is published everywhere in quilting and eating magazines, blogs and books, so listen in this Thursday to hear all about it! Her newest book is coming soon called You Inspire me to Quilt.

This week I'll also be talking about the SNOWFLAKES Postcard Challenge that is well underway, the CQA Trend-Tex Challenge and more...

And here's the winner of this week's Quilter's Corner - Michele Timms! Congrats Michele, you have won the book A Month of Sundays and a little bit of gorgeous fabric to go with it by Cheryl Arkison.

It was so fun to interview Cheryl Arkison. It's always a thrill to meet cool Canadian Quilters, plus the huge bonus of getting to give away one of her wonderful books. I was thrilled!

So join me this Thursday at 4pm Pacific time to meet Cheryl Arkison and get a glimpse of a day in the life of a great Canadian Quilter.

Tuesday Preview - Canadian Quilt Talk Episode # 63

Welcome to the Tuesday Preview.

I am so glad to be back at work with Canadian Quilt Talk podcast writing, interviewing and taping the next few podcasts. I've had so much amazing support while I took some time off including comments, letters and more. Here's just one example of a kind heart in the sweet quilting community I'm so proud to be a part of:

Card sent by Maxine Fairclough
When a follower, listener, or friend cares enough to take the time to hand write a note of support my heart just melts. Maxine wrote to me that she hopes all is well with my family, that she has missed my podcasts these last few weeks, and she's looking forward to this week's show. Thank you so much for the kind words Maxine. And thanks to everyone for the well wishes. My mom is on the mend, cancer free, and feeling so much better.

And speaking of hand written notes, this week on CQT podcast # 63 I'll be announcing the theme for my next Canadian Quilt Talk Postcard Exchange

Be sure to tune in to the podcast this Thursday at 4pm Pacific!

For our Canada Day postcard exchange we had over 70 entries from around the world and for this Holiday exchange we want to shatter that number and break 100. I hope you'll join us. Fabric postcards are the perfect way to allow yourself some time for creative play and explore a new technique or idea you've been tossing around in your head. So stay tuned for all the details and be sure to sign up starting Nov. 1st, 2014.

And now for the topic of this week's show - Halloween is just around the corner and I've been stewing a cauldron of last minute witchy ideas to decorate your home and bring your guests a smile.

CQT Podcast # 63 - Halloween Stitchwitchery

2 minute Halloween Treat Bags

AND NOW THE WINNER of the Quilter's Corner segment - Eileen Emberger with a story of how her husband inspired a healthy round of laughter on his first visit to a quilt shop.                                                                           CONGRATULATIONS Eileen! You have won a fat quarter bundle by Northcott Silks Inc. Northcott - cottons that feel like silk!

Stay tuned for the next CQT podcast on Oct.30th when I announce the theme for my holiday postcard exchange. I hope you'll join me for a wonderful way to share a little bit of fibre art with a new penpal far away.

Tuesday Preview - CQT Episode # 62

Welcome to the Tuesday Preview. Unlike other parents, I've always been slightly bummed out by my son's return to school because I miss him, but this year has been a little different. With the BC teacher's strike, my 2 summer months of a little less work and a little more play has turned into 4 months of barely getting any work done at all. So having him back at school this week has been a huge relief.

So where do I start? Looking back at how far I've come with this podcast I can't believe the topics I've covered and the people I've met along the way. It is a journey I want to keep on taking as long as you'll listen. So what I've decided to do today is listen to you. So I looked back at the episodes that had the most feedback and a clear favourite stands out. Yes, Ricky Tims was the most listened to podcast I've ever done. He was such a sweetheart. And speaking of him - he'll be returning to Canada in May to teach his Super Seminar in Manitoba at the International Peace Gardens. You can quickly find out information on that by going to Facebook.com/quiltmanitoba. And while you are there be sure to like that page. Melissa is a quilt advocate and wonder woman. I just love her passion.

But back to your most-loved podcast, when it comes to topics the clear winner was Podcast # 8 - Inspiration in the Studio. So if you want to go back and take a listen to those 2 podcasts before you tune in this Thursday, just go to the brandylynndesigns website and click on LISTEN NOW CQT PODCAST and choose episode 7 for Ricky Tims or Episode 8 for Inspiration in the Studio. So this week on the podcast I'm giving you ore of what you want.

Canadian Quilt Talk Episode 062 - Inspiration in the Studio Part 2

Last time I talked about setting aside time, clearing clutter, breaking down your limitations, taking on a new challenge, creating a dream board and making something really special for yourself. But this week I'll be bringing you a whole new dose of ideas to inspire you to get off your creative butt and have some fun. If you ever feel like you're in a lull and need something to spark your creativity, then this is the podcast for you. Here are a few photos to show you how nature is one of my paths to inspiration.

Inspired by the wilderness

Me in a favourite tree at Kilvert Lake

AND NOW THE WINNER of our Quilter's Corner segment - Gayle Grier with a story of how she started quilting, formed her local guild and how she felt proud to carry on her grandmother's heritage of quilting.                                               CONGRATULATIONS Gayle! You have won a fat quarter bundle by Northcott Silks Inc. Northcott - cottons that feel like silk!
As always, at the end of this week's episode, I offer up MY TWO STITCHES on Inspiration in the Studio!

Tuesday Preview - CQT Episode # 61

This week's preview is short and sweet with a mobile post from my phone. (I still think it's so cool that I can do this.)

I was inspired this week to write the podcast when I found a lovely little bin of 12 fabric-filled baggies, each with their own set of instructions. They have been buried in the back of a cupboard, tucked away for years. We've only been living here for 3 years, but I'm sure I haven't noticed these fabrics for over 5 years.

Oh, the suspense you say? Well, they are a block of the month purchased for me one month at a time by my mom-in-law.

CQT Episode # 61 - Block of the Month

It was a great gift idea on her part and I was very excited each month to receive the new package, but I never actually felt I had the time to even open them up. I also felt like I couldn't make the July block before I'd made all the earlier months so I tucked it away and as time passed, I completely forgot it was there.

Yes, you may notice that there are two Februaries in the photo. They are different fabrics so it must be my labelling mistake and one is March because March is missing.

So this week I'll explore with you just what is a Block of the Month or as quilters affectionately call it a BOM!

I'm not at my computer right now so I can't choose a winner for the weekly Quilter's Corner, but I'll have one picked by Thursday to announce on the show. Good luck everyone! And if you have a story to share, send it to info@explorefibre.com

So join me this week for the my take on Block of the Month. What is it? How do they work? And how to organize one yourself or find a great one online.

Cheers!

Quilts of Valour Challenge...continued

Hey Everyone,

Here's a lovely note about the Quilts of Valour Challenge...

Anita LaHay
REMINDER - My QoV Challenge is for CQT Listeners to make a QoV in 2014, send me a photo and they'll receive a free Brandy Lynn Designs pattern! Easy as that!

I received an email yesterday from a wonderful quilter named Anita LaHay who has already submitted a photo and won a free pattern for a Quilt of Valour in 2014. But she didn't stop there! She has made another gorgeous quilt for a soldier.

Thanks for sending in your photos Anita!

Since she's already won a pattern, I've decided to feature her here because you will love it and she deserves the accolades. Her blog is called daydreamsofquilts so be sure to go there and follow along. She has a wonderful post about her latest Quilt of Valour.

Here are the great photos Anita sent of her latest QoV. She even used all fabric from my terrific sponsor Northcott Silks! The line she chose was Oh Canada by designer Linda Ludovico. It's gorgeous and sooooo Canadian. I love it!

So? Have you made a QoV in 2014 or are you considering it? Be sure to send me a photo so you can win a pattern. It takes a certain type of person to dedicate hours of quilting for a good cause and you deserve a free pattern and a huge thank you for making your community better.

Thanks Anita!

Episode 059 Canadian QuiltTalk - What's In It For You?

Join Brandy Lynn this week as she turns the tables and asks you for inspiration. This show is for you, so Brandy asks you ten questions to brainstorm what you want out of the Canadian Quilt Talk podcast.

Check out this episode!

What's in it For You?

Here's a sneak peek at today's podcast! As promised, here are all the questions from CQT Episode # 59 so you can peruse, contemplate and send me a note anytime.

What topics do you want me to tackle?

I'm telling you my best content by far is the content sparked by a creative question from a listener. What you say matters, and I'll bet my bottom dollar, if you have a question - no matter how small - I bet someone else is thinking the same question too.

  1. WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE WAY TO QUILT WITH FRIENDS?
  2. WHAT'S YOUR BIGGEST PAIN IN QUILTING?
  3. WHAT'S YOUR CREATIVE CHALLENGE?
  4. WHAT'S STOPPING YOU FROM STITCHING?
  5. WHAT ARE YOUR BAD HABITS?
  6. ARE YOU LIMITING  YOURSELF?
  7. WHAT’S YOUR NEXT GOAL AS A QUILTER?
  8. WHAT ARE YOU REALLY GOOD AT?
  9. WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR GREATEST QUILTING MOMENT?
  10. WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE QUILTING PRODUCT OR TOOL?
So those are my 10 questions to you. Tell me your challenges and let me do the research. I strive every week to bring you topics that make you a better quilter, introduce special guest experts and keep you in stitches along the way. So find a question or two that resonate with you (or answer them all!) and leave a comment here, post on Facebook, Twitter or send me an email at info@explorefibre.com.

Until next time...Dream Big and Work Hard in the Studio with Canadian Quilt Talk.

Tuesday Preview - CQT Episode # 59

Happy Tuesday Everyone!

I am so happy to chat with you again this evening to share my next new topic for the Canadian Quilt Talk podcast. This week on the show it's going to be ALL ABOUT YOU!

Here's what I mean: I've been doing this podcast for over a year now and I've had the most amazing guests, wonderful interviews, and really cool experiences, but not once have I really asked you what you want. I may have sent out a few small queries on Facebook, but never on the podcast have I asked you in depth what you want in a show that's all for you.

CQT Episode # 59 - What's in it for YOU!

Northcott
This week on the show I'll ask you a series of questions that get you thinking about yourself as a quilter. What's troubling you? How do you excel? Where are you on your journey? I'll be doing a series of posts all over social media this week and from now on about what you think would make a great show. What topics do you want me to tackle and more... I'm telling you my best content by far is the content sparked by a creative question from a listener. What you say matters, and I'll bet my bottom dollar, if you have a question - no matter how small - I bet someone else is thinking the same question too. Join me this week and become a part of my CQT team!

And now for the winner of this week's Quilter's Corner... (drumroll please...)

Congratulations to Linda Schmidt! Linda submitted a story that happened this spring at the CQA 2014 National Show in Niagara about how one kind quilter really paid it forward. Linda has won a fat quarter bundle by Northcott - the cottons that feel like silk.

Tuesday Preview - CQT Episode # 58

Happy Tuesday Everyone!

I had so much fun interviewing Elaine Quehl for this week's show. She is teaching a week-long fabric dyeing course called Dye Happy in my home town of Summerland, BC and I was so excited when she agreed to let me sneak her away from her busy schedule.

And you've probably guessed it - if I'm interviewing Elaine, then we will definitely be talking about dyeing fabric!

CQT Episode # 58 - Dyeing and more with Elaine Quehl

Elaine Quehl is a quilt artist, teacher, dyer and designer whose workshops are characterized by delightful bursts of colour through hand-dyed cloth. She is most famous for her gorgeous foliage quilts including hosta leaves, flowers, and trees.

1st place CQA 2014 - Original Design Abstract Pictorial

This week on Canadian Quilt Talk Episode # 58 we’ll be talking about dyeing fabric, including her new line of fabric, her travels, her workshops, her recent 1st place award at CQA 2014 and more.

AND I am so delighted by my biggest sponsor - Northcott Silks. I told them I was interviewing Elaine Quehl on the show and they are about to launch her new line of fabric called Falling Leaves in September, so they have sent me some! It's not even going to be released to quilt stores until September and our lucky winner this week will get it first!

And here's the winner of our weekly Quilter's Corner: Michèle-Renée Charbonneau with an adorable story of how proud a little child can be of their parent!

It was so fun to interview Elaine in Summerland! It's always a thrill to meet my guests in person, plus the huge bonus of getting to give away some of her new fabric line. I was thrilled!

So join me this Thursday at 4pm Pacific time to meet Elaine Quehl as we chat all about colour on CQT Episode # 58!
